Steve McNamara, General Secretary of the LTDA, was quoted in TAXI Newspaper [10 March 2015] as saying "Undoubtedly, there is a whole generation of Londoners who do not carry any cash, they pay for everything through debit cards".
Data from banks and card issuers (Barclays, Visa, Mastercard etc) confirms that card usage is becoming more and more popular, especially the use of 'contactless' card payments – there are 58 million contactless cards in circulation in the UK alone*, plus those used by overseas visitors who need a cab when they visit the UK.
