Vend POS Android app
Great question. At Vend we use the best parts of both approaches. Our iOS app for example is actually our HTML5 app in a native wrapper. We are huge advocates of HTML5 and that is where we focus the majority of our time and have a lot of new features rolling out this quarter that continue to build out our HTML5 app. As our native app leverages off our HTML5 app, users of both apps get the same benefit.
The reason for our native wrapper for iOS is to provide a bridge between the HTML5 app and the hardware on the device. Accessing the doc connector, camera, bluetooth devices, networking and so on is challenging with a pure HTML5 app running in Safari or Chrome on an iPad. So in the native wrapper we can add device specific integrations for our iOS users and only have to build them into the native app. But the rest of the features in the HTML5 app are universal across all clients.
We don't have any plans to develop a windows client app for the desktop. We have that already, it's called Vend and it is HTML5 awesomeness ;-). Google's Chrome browser lets us do the same, it lets us run a pretty slick HTML5 PLUS we can develop widgets and plug-ins that give our HTML5 app more connectivity to hardware and other desktop apps.
